Spotlight On: Sue Downs

Whenever we talk about Sue among ourselves (yeah, we talk about everybody…) we always use one word to describe her playing:  elegant.  Her playing has sparkle, intelligence and virtuosity.  The first time I heard her I remember thinking that I had never heard anyone quite like her.  There is an ease, beauty and fluidity that is unique to her style.  Sue started studying piano at the ripe old age of three.  Her Classical training peeks through her jazz, gospel and pop performances in her flawless technique and thoughtful phrasing.  Sue studied at the Curtis Institute (http://www.curtis.edu/html/10000.shtml) and if you’ve never heard of it, EVERY student is on FULL scholarship.  She is well known for her jazz performances and has performed at many prestigious jazz festivals.  Sue is also a marvelous gospel/worship music pianist and if that’s not enough, she is a very talented singer.  If you have not heard her on your Disklavier, you are really missing something.  If you have a CD capable instrument, you can hear her sing AND play on:

First Lady of the Disklavier Sings
and
Sue Downs - I Love Being Here with You

She is a popular Disklavier recording artist and has performed on several other collections including:

There Will Never Be Another Sue!
Triocity
Hymns and Her
Sue’s Noodles (all original compositions)
It Will Be A Blue Christmas Without Sue

and much more.

Sue is married to Jerry Downs, another talented musician and fantastic editor/engineer.  It’s a perfect musical marriage and I have a feeling it’s perfect in many other ways!

Don’t miss the chance to hear this superb pianist!
